A motorist slammed into a power pole off U.S. 80 near the Bull River Bridge early Thursday morning, knocking out electricity across Tybee Island until shortly after 10 a.m. The woman, driving a Ford Explorer, struck the pole about 2 a.m. on the eastern end of the bridge, said Gena Moore, Savannah-Chatham police spokeswoman.
